Module 17. Solid-State Circuits

Course Objectives/Outcomes: Students who complete this course will be able to:

• Analyze simple circuits containing diodes, LEDs, BJTs, FETs, and simple integrated circuits.

Module Objectives/Outcomes: Students who complete this module will be able to:

1. Explain the operation of a diode.
2. Sketch and label a half wave rectifier.
3. Sketch the wave shapes for voltages and currents in a half wave rectifier using real or ideal diodes.
4. Sketch and label a full wave rectifier.
5. Sketch the wave shapes for voltages and currents in a full wave rectifier using real or ideal diodes.
6. Sketch the wave shapes for voltages and currents in rectifiers with smoothing capacitors.
7. Calculate voltages and currents in diode circuits such as clamps and battery chargers.
8. Determine voltages and currents in LED circuits.
9. Sketch and label BJT circuits, including common emitter and emitter follower amplifiers.
10. Calculate voltages and currents in BJT amplifier circuits.
11. Calculate gain and output voltage in cascaded amplifiers.
12. Use amplifier specifications to determine an amplifier's performance.
13. Sketch and label wave trains in coaxial cable.
14. Compare solid-state relays to mechanical relays.
